The IEC 61850-9-2 standard 'Selective Values' (SV) defines the transmission of instantaneous power system data over Ethernet fiber-optic communication channels using a publisher/subscriber mechanism.
In the digitalization of substation architecture, analog signals transmitted over copper wires are replaced by digital signals over Ethernet fiber-optic networks.
These digital signals are generated either by autonomous coupling units (SAMU) or compatible IEDs with digital signal processing capabilities.
