The M-Thump5 combines nine cable testing methods into a convenient and user-friendly interface.
Product Overview The portable cable fault location system M-Thump5 provides a safe, efficient, and extremely easy-to-use solution for rapid identification, preliminary localization, and precise determination of various cable faults in low-voltage and medium-voltage power cables up to 6.6 kV. This product represents a new generation of advanced underground cable fault location systems that require less training than traditional Thumper systems. The device features a lightweight aluminum case equipped with handles, suitable for portable use or as a stationary unit mounted on a vehicle.
Nine Fault Finding Methods in One Toolset The M-Thump5 integrates nine identification, preliminary localization, and precise fault detection methods in a single tool with an output voltage up to 5 kV. These methods include:
- DC withstand and control testing - Insulation resistance measurement - DC short circuit conversion with a burning current up to 500 mA - Preliminary location using cable radar/TDR, including phase comparison - Arc Reflection (ARM) with inductive ARM filter, including BestPicture Multishot - ARM Live Burning (Burn Arc Reflection), including BestPicture Multishot - Continuous ICE resolution - High-resistance defect detection using pulsed/pulsating overvoltages up to 1000 J at voltages up to 5 kV - Precise ground or sheath fault localization using the voltage gradient method (step voltage method)
